NJ - NYC Dog Training Testimonials

As a rescue shelter we often take in dogs who have been abandoned,
neglected or abused. Working with Josh at Doggy Tales has been an
amazing expirience and the genuine care he shows for these precious
animals is really touching. As a Professional Josh is impeccable and
    his
methods of positive reinforcement are very much in line with what Room
for One More is about. He has shown a real love for the work he does in

handling some of our toughest cases. He has taught us more about how to

provide a more stable environment for the animals in our care and his
methods reflect the kindness he has and gives these neglected animals
the first taste of stability they have ever known. We have seen so much

improvement in a short period of time with a dog that no one would have

ever thought could learn to trust again. She is a different dog and to
see the way she has found her confidence again is thrilling!

We called Joshua of Doggy Tales Training when we were looking for help with some of our dogs that need special attention in order for them to be more easily adopted. In speaking with Josh, he seemed to align with our belief that each dog is special and deserves the chance to find a better life. We never just give up on a dog or assume a dog is unadoptable because of their breed. We try and match dog and adopter to the best of our abilities. We liked Joshua’s philosophy regarding rehabilitating and healing those dogs whose pasts may have left them scarred, sometimes both emotionally and physically. This is a big part of our mission, and we, as do most other shelters, work with what limited resources we have solely for the animals – it is truly a labor of love.

Josh has generously volunteered his time and expertise to work with both our staff and the dogs, and we have already seen remarkable results. Our staff really knows and truly cares about our dogs, and they like Josh’s approach. He is working with one dog at a time in order to pinpoint behaviors that need addressing, and he is offering sensible, accurate plans of action for these dogs.

We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship with Joshua – our dogs are responding well, our employees are happy and receptive to his methods, and we are thankful that he is helping us in our efforts to rehome these dogs.

PAWS Animal Shelter, located in Montclair, New Jersey, houses approximately 30 dogs at any given time, most of which are brought in by Animal Control. We have one of the highest adoption rates in New Jersey, even considering the stringent application process we follow regarding any adoption. We screen applicants, perform home checks for safety issues, and provide veterinary care to all our “residents” to make the transition to a good, adoptive home as stress-free for the dog as possible. We are a “low-kill” shelter that prefers to find the good qualities in every dog (and cat) that comes through our doors, and work with that dog until we can hopefully find the most suitable home. We euthanize only in extreme circumstances -- cases of severe aggression/bite histories, or terminal illness where quality of life is compromised. Most times we have no history on these dogs. They come in all shapes, sizes and breeds. We have a great staff, very dedicated volunteers, including the adoption team who works almost around the clock to find good homes. We’ve been sheltering and caring for Montclair’s homeless animals for over 30 years.

Josh of Doggy Tales training has helped save my rescue dogs and has made them adoptable!

I rescue dogs from the shelters who would have otherwise been euthanized.

2 dogs I took in are fear biters. One, a Jack Russell ruled our home for alomst a year. He knew he was the boss! He was not adoptable because he would viciously bite us, chase us around the house until he could bite us, and wouldn't let us in our own bedrooms if he was sleeping there. He became very unpredictable. He would bite for no reason at all. He would also pee on us to let us know he ruled over us. He wore a leash around his neck for months so we could easily grab him without getting bitten!
I love all my rescue dogs and would never think of putting any one of them down.

I went through numerous trainers. One trainer, who is certified, said that he was all better and loving after only 2 days. Well, guess what, he still wanted to kill us and still didn't know any basic commands. Another trainer picked him up and threw him on the floor and terrorized my poor dog to the point where he was too afraid to lift up his head! Sure, he listened then! He was too scared to do anything else! So, I got rid of that trainer real quick. Another trainer said he was mental and had neurological problems and we should have him euthanized immediately and that he wasn't fit to live in a home with people. All of these trainers were certified and were training for a few years!

I found Josh of Doggy Tales training through an add on Craigslist. Although at first I was a little skeptical having been through 3 different trainers and spending hundreds of dollars and not having any results, I still called because I wanted my rescue dog to be able to lead a normal doggy life without fear and be the loving dog I knew he could be.
Josh took the time and sat down with me and explained to me what my dog was going through and why he acts the way he does. He really made me understand my dog and his behavior. I was still a little skeptical, but held out hope that he could help me.

Now, my rescue dog no longer pees on us (he stopped a few weeks after training with Josh), he is friendly, has not bitten us in months, knows all his basic commands, gained weight, wags his tail more, and is really playful. He is now the happy and loyal dog I've always wanted him to be. No longer does he wear a leash around his neck when inside my home. I can easily touch his collar now, take his collar off and put it back on without the fear of him biting me and pick him up. I can even put clothes on him and he lets me!
Josh uses ONLY positive reinforcement. He did what no other trainer could do....He gave me back my dog!

I now ask Josh to train all of my rescue dogs to make them more adoptable. He also trains my dogs that I personally own as well. I will NEVER use another trainer but Josh of Doggy Tales Training! He does not take advantage of people and if he feels you are not putting in the work after he leaves and keep up with your dogs training and what he teaches you, then you are wasting your money. Josh works hard to rehabilitate dogs who's owners can not handle them. He also volunteers his time to 2 of the biggest shelters in NJ to rehabilitate the dogs there to make them more adoptable.

Josh of Doggy Tales Training has dedicated his life to helping dogs in need and that is what he does best!

I would highly recommend Doggy Tales Training to anyone who is looking for a compassionate and wonderful trainer who will give you the results you are looking for!
